Benefits of Green Tea & Calendula for Skin

To understand why green tea and calendula can potentially reduce redness, irritation, and premature aging of the skin when consumed or applied directly, we'll need to get into some science.

Green tea is packed full of flavonoids called catechins which are known to be powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory. Likewise, calendula contains other flavonoids that do the same.

Calendula is also rich in linoleic fatty acid which is great at helping lock moisture into the skin keeping it firmer.

Flavonoids also have antimicrobial properties. They destroy bacterial cell membranes and ward off acne that develops as a result of bacterial build-up on your skin's surface.

DIY Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp of soaked tea leaves
  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 1 tsp of baking soda

Directions:

  1. Once you’ve steeped a cup of Green Passion Punch, drain excess water from the leaves removing any fruit pieces. (Tip: Try separating the fruit pieces before brewing your cup to make it easier to use just the tea leaves with the calendula later in your facemask mix.)
  2. With a pestle and mortar grind the leaves into a paste (a small bowl and back of a spoon work too).
  3. Add the baking powder and honey and mix.
  4. Grind the mixture up to get it as smooth as desired. Once you're happy with the texture, apply evenly to a clean face. Gently massage in a circular motion to help penetrate the skin.
  5. Leave the mask on for 10 - 15 mins then rinse with warm water.
  6. To see the best results, do this routine 1 - 3 times per week.
